

In 1976, Jim and Jean retired to Winter Park, Florida where he enjoyed fishing and tending his garden and citrus trees. After completing Baptist Seminary School, Jim served as Associate Pastor at Chillicothe Baptist Church and as a Supply Pastor throughout south central Ohio. While serving as a firefighter, he sustained a career ending injury that set him on a path to his most fulfilling calling. Jim was later employed as a Chillicothe policeman, before transferring to the fire department. He was introduced to the love of his life Norma Jean Hill by her brother, who also worked as a prison guard. Following his military service, Jim settled in Chillicothe, Ohio where he worked as a prison guard. He served aboard the aircraft carriers USS WASP in VS Squadron 72, and aboard the USS Hornet. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Jim served his country honorably in the U.S Navy during WWII. Jim’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 73 years, Norma Jean Hill Mitchell his daughter Kim Garland and husband, Joe, of Longwood, Florida brother Russell Mitchell and wife, Mary, of Speedway, Indiana 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born Januin Ashland, Kentucky to William Sherman and Martha K. Mitchell, 97, of Lake Mary, Florida entered eternal rest in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All that knew and loved her will miss her dearly. All of her 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren also profoundly loved her.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bowers of Kannapolis, NC and son, Richard L. “Bud” Niles, her son, Gerry Wayne Niles, her daughter, Wanda Elaine Lantzsch and all of her siblings brothers Reggie, Cleve (Junior), Walter, Bobby, Earl and sisters, Gladys Loftis and Jewel Kramer. Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard H. Doris was a proud and loyal member of the Powers Drive Baptist Church for 46 years, and was retired from the Orange County Public School System after many devoted years of service.

Doris was born on Septemin Chase, Louisiana, to the late Cleve and Amanda Goodman.
